Bellform

A countdown on every question.

Google Forms can time a whole quiz. It cannot give question 4 ninety seconds and question 5 forty. Bellform starts a new clock when each question opens, then files the answers into the form you already use.

Three steps, then the bell rings itself.

1 · Teacher

Open the form

Install the Bellform add-on. It reads only the form you have open — the questions, the choices, and the link students would normally use.

2 · Times

Set a clock per question

Forty seconds on the multiple choice. Two minutes on the paragraph. Twenty minutes for the whole quiz, if you want a backstop. Zero means that one question is not on its own clock.

3 · Students

Share the Bellform link

Students see one question at a time. When a clock hits zero, the next question opens. When the quiz ends, the answers are submitted to Google Forms.

What students actually get.

What it will not pretend to be

  • Not a lockdown browser. A second device is still a second device.
  • Refreshing does not reset the clock. The start time lives on the server.
  • Closing the tab does not pause it. Missed questions are marked blank and the next clock starts when the previous one was supposed to end.
  • Students cannot go back. That is the point of a per-question limit.
  • They cannot read ahead. The page only receives the current question.
  • Anyone with the original Google Forms link can skip the timer. Share the Bellform link only.

One form free. The rest is a school-year price.

The free plan is the whole product, on a single form. Unlimited forms is $4 a month or $36 a year — $12 less than paying monthly. Prices are in US dollars. Paddle adds tax at checkout and is the merchant of record, which is how an independent seller in Israel can take payments without Stripe.

Questions teachers ask first.

Where do the answers go?

Into the Google Form, as a normal response. If you linked a spreadsheet, Forms puts them there too. Bellform also keeps a backup in case Google rejects a submit — for example a required question the student never reached.

Do students sign in with Google?

No. They type a name, and an email if you turn on one attempt per email. The form itself must accept responses from anyone with the link, and it must not require a Workspace sign-in.

Can they cheat by reloading?

Reloading resumes the same attempt. The clocks are computed from timestamps stored when the question opened. Changing the laptop clock does not add time. They can still use another email or another device if you do not have a stronger check. Bellform is a timer, not an exam hall.

What about grids, file uploads, and “go to section based on answer”?

Not in this version. The quiz is a straight line. The add-on tells you which items it skipped. Turn off “shuffle question order” — the add-on can do that for you — or the order on the timed page will not match a shuffled form.

Why isn’t this inside the Google Forms link?

Forms will not run a different countdown on each question. Bellform is a separate page that submits into the form. If students can see the original link, they can bypass the timer.

Can my school admin block it?

Yes. The add-on asks to manage the form it is installed in, to show a sidebar, and to connect to Bellform. Some districts treat Forms scopes as high-risk and only allow trusted apps. That is an admin allowlist, not a security audit of Bellform.
